MacMillan Pipe Band
The MacMillan Pipe Band is a Grade 3 member in the Mid-Atlantic Branch of the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association. Founded in 2001 — the 40th anniversary of the Rockville High School Pipe Band (formerly Robert E. Peary High School Pipe Band) — the MacMillan Pipe Band was originally named the Peary/Rockville Alumni Pipe Band, and debuted at that year’s National Capital Area Scottish Festival.
The MacMillan Pipe Band wears the Modern MacMillan Hunting Tartan in its uniform. This is a darker version of the Ancient MacMillan Hunting Tartan, currently worn by the Rockville High School Pipe Band. The MacMillan Hunting Tartan was chosen to honor Donald Baxter MacMillan, who assisted Robert E. Peary on his 1909 expedition to the North Pole. Special permission to wear the tartan was secured from Clan MacMillan in Scotland.
